In the pet canned food sector, the introduction of freeze-drying technology has expanded the product range beyond traditional formats. By incorporating freeze-dried ingredients or applying freeze-drying to specific components during production, these products exhibit distinct characteristics compared to conventional high-temperature sterilized canned foods.

I. Process Pathways: Integration Methods of Freeze-Drying and Canning

Freeze-drying technology is primarily applied in canned products through two distinct methods, each corresponding to different product positioning:

Freeze-Dried Ingredient Addition Type: Freeze-dried meat, organ meats, or fruit/vegetable chunks are canned together with broth or minced meat. Upon contact with the liquid, the freeze-dried ingredients partially rehydrate, retaining some texture and form.

Whole-Can Freeze-Dried Type: Prepared ingredients undergo vacuum freeze-drying within the can, yielding a dry freeze-dried block. Rehydration with water during consumption restores a moist texture resembling traditional canned goods.

II. Product Characteristics: Distinct Features from Traditional Canned Goods

Benefiting from freeze-drying's low-temperature processing, these canned products exhibit several differences from conventional high-temperature sterilized canned goods:

Texture Layers: In canned goods containing freeze-dried ingredients, the freeze-dried chunks retain structural integrity after rehydration, creating a textural contrast with smooth meat purees or soups.

Flavor Retention: Low-temperature processing preserves volatile flavor compounds more effectively, resulting in a more pronounced aroma upon opening.

Nutrient Retention: Heat-sensitive nutrients suffer minimal degradation during freeze-drying, leading to higher retention rates in the final product.

III. Usage Experience: Convenience in Feeding

From a daily feeding perspective, freeze-dried canned food offers notable advantages:

Controllable rehydration: For whole-can freeze-dried products, owners can adjust water volume based on pet preferences to control final texture and broth quantity

Flexible storage: Unfinished portions of opened whole-can freeze-dried products can be stored at room temperature in sealed containers without refrigeration, facilitating portioned feeding

Versatile Mixing: Freeze-dried chunks from ingredient-enriched canned foods can be removed separately as treats or training rewards, expanding usage scenarios.

Freeze-drying technology introduces novel elements to traditional canned food categories, allowing pets to experience more authentic flavors and textures derived directly from the ingredients in their daily diet.
